Bio

Andrew Y. Ames is a new media artist, designer and educator who creates interactive works that foster play, collaboration and wonder. From websites to boardgames and sculpture, his work bends the rules of play and interaction in unexpected ways to invite critical reflection on social media, warfare, and what it means to win, lose and collaborate. His works have been exhibited in “Artists Who Teach” at the Westmoreland Museum, “IDEAS_17: Art and Inclusivity in the Digital Age”at the New Media Caucus conference, “Learn to Play” at the Euphrat Museum of Art, and featured in “Just Play” at the Beard Arts Center. Ames holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Digital + Media, and a BFA from the University of Denver in Electronic Media Art & Design. Currently Ames is a Professor of Media Arts and Gallery Coordinator at Robert Morris University where he is the lead faculty for the UX/UI Major.
